Tribal age

Concept

Players face each other in a shape-shifting board and try to make their tribe the most proficient of all by hunting, harvesting, trading or fighting enemy tribes.

Challenges

  • Balance a complex strategy game.

Solutions

  • For this first project in Supinfogame, we had a full year to create a boardgame. We quickly settled for a strategy game that could offer many possibilities for players to win. Of course, it meant that the game needed a perfect balancing to make every winning options equally fun and interesting. At first, the players could only hunt and collect resources scattered all over the board. But no matter how hard we tried balancing this, we always felt that something was missing and it made the game boring. To fix it, we added a PvP mechanic based on ossicles to add a dexterity side in the game. This feature made the entire game more dynamic and we kept working with this mindset through the entire production. Once the core gameplay was fully defined, we made a lot of playtests to make sure we were heading in the right way while tweaking many parameters of the game. In the end, we ended up with a polished, fun and well-balanced game that left a good impression to all the players, which was a big pride for us.
